Black women are woefully underrepresented in the skincare space, and finding a specialist who is familiar with the complexities and nuances of Black skin can be quite a challenge. Enter Dija Ayodele, an aesthetician, educator and author who launched The Black Skincare Directory website in 2018. The company's mission is to connect people of colour to skincare practitioners, as well as share expertise through informative content and provide education to the skincare community. To further facilitate the beauty needs of Black women, Dija also launched West Room Aesthetics, a skincare clinic in West London where women of colour can learn about their skin and receive treatments for common issues like hyperpigmentation and acne.
